A Quiet Place

Sometimes it's just nice to get away from everything.

When I can't afford the time or the price of a plane flight to Florida, I head for a quite spot in the Rouge Valley, about a fifteen minute drive from my home.

Come join me and maybe you'll feel its peace and comfort too.

Yes, this is the same place I wrote about back on April 11th in the post In Praise Of Silence.

That was fantastic, Barry. What a beautiful place to rest and think.

It will all be o.k. Really.xx

It was a lot of fun to make, Tabor. Thanks.

I know it will Natalie. I've been coming to this spot to sit and enjoy the peaceful feeling it has for over five years now.

Being down in a valley the hills block the distant roar of the city and you can hear the leaves rustling in the wind.

Glorious sights, and well deserved escape for you. Sometimes I escape into an Edna Ferber book in the backyard, but this was better :-)

I often escape into a book as well, Mary. Especially during long train rides into the city.

There's nothing like a walk in the woods, particularly before (or after) mosquito season. You did a great job: from the background music to the editing to the narration. You have a very good voice. What editor do you use?

Hi Anvil,

I just use Microsoft Movie Maker and the video was shot with the video feature on a little Sony Cybershot.

Glad you liked it.

That makes me very happy ChefE! I have some similar memories of my father as well.

And good looking too, Alison!

I am not a sun lover so The Rouge Valley to me is paradise. Beautiful video! Having the hospital close and being an out patient allows you days to go exploring. Thank you to all the people who donate their time and money to cancer research. We have treatment options and choices close by.

I could actually feel my heart rate slow down as I listened to the music & watched the beauty of the place. We have places like that that we could go to too - we should do it more often!

Barry said...

I second that comment Linda!

Ah, good. Then my job is done Bug!

This was so poignant, lovely and peaceful, Barry. It brought tears to my eyes, dear friend. Thank you for sharing your tranquility with us.

It's hard to believe not many come there to enjoy with quiet and beauty.

That is so peaceful - wonderful job with the video! It reminds me of my childhood. Our house had woods and a creek running in behind it. All the children of the neighborhood would spend hours out there, exploring.

A beautiful, restorative place. You are lucky to have such a place so close. Lucky Lindsay, too (looks like she is having so much fun!)

Barry said...

I wonder about that too Willow. Toronto has 3 million people and here I am alone. Maybe I should tell more people about this.

And then I think to myself, shut up and just enjoy it Barry.

Hi Evil Twin's Wife (love your blogger name!),

Yes I grew up close to a small creek too where my three brothers and all our friends used to play from dawn until the street lights came on.

Maybe that's why I love it there so much.

I usually take Lindsay for runs along the bluffs, Kerry, which are within walking distance from our home, but we drive to the Rouge Valley for longer runs on the weekend.

And I know we are really lucky.

Everyone needs a spot like this. I have a lovely valley below my house where I can go for peace. I only have a stream though! Thanks for the tour.

Dogs must be the happiest beings in the world - and they spread the happiness around. I found myself watching Lindsay's tail wag, smiling, feeling totally content. Thank you for sharing your special retreat.

Barry said...

Ah, but yous is within walking distance, Lorac. That is a big bonus!

Lindsay is always in the moment, Sandra, and over joyed.

Very beautiful! And how nice that it's so close. Have a wonderful weekend.

Barry,

That was beautiful! I could feel the tension leaving my body as I listened to the peaceful music and watched the video. I liked the pace of both.

What a wonderful video...it slowed my day down and centered me and I can imagine what it does for you. And it is great to see Lindsey having such a doggy time...what smells she must have. Thanks for sharing it.

What a peaceful place to go and just think alone with the beauty of nature Barry.
I too have a place that I call "My Soft Place To Fall" here in Newnan where I go to think things out.....it truly helps the soul, no?
